Bio

Sensei Scott Merrill is the Chief Instructor of Chow Hoon Goshin Jitsu Monterey Self Defense Club. He has been training in the Martial Arts for over 27 years. He started in 1974 studying Goju Ryu Karate under Pete Neafeto Santos.

In 1976 Sensei Merrill started training full time with the late Professor John Chow Hoon. This was his main teacher until 1988 when Professor Chow Hoon passed away. At the same time Sensei Merrill was also studying with Professor James Muro at the Marina Dojo. He is still studying under Professor Muro who is the Chief Instructor of Chow Hoon Goshin Jitsu.

Sensei Merrill is a 5th degree in Danzan Ryu Jujitsu and Past Registration Chairman and current Secretary for Jujitsu America. 3rd Degree In Koshoryu Kenpo and 1st Degree in Shorinji Ryu from the late Richard Kim.

He was awarded Jujitsu America's Presidential Award in 1984 by Professor Willy Cahill, Instructor of the Year Award in 1994 and Black Belt Hall of Fame Award in 1996. In 2000 he was very honored to receive the John Chow Hoon Spirit of Kodenkan Award. In 1977 he participated and helped the team medal in the first recorded tournament with similar rules of Sports Jujitsu in Pacific Grove, CA.
